Cartwright Computers Ltd started in March 2004 by Lee Cartwright, aged 24 years.   My interest in computers came when I was just a young boy.  My first computer was a ZX spectrum.  I wasn’t in to games as such I liked to work out how the games where made.  Using the ZX spectrum I managed to master the ZX spectrum language and create my own applications.

Later on I got my hands on my first PC.  It was an Amstrad PC1640.  This was running on DOS 4.  I remember this very well! I mastered the DOS in months and went on to make my own security software to stop my little brothers gaining access to my system.

My school life was not the best.  I suffer from a stammer which means my communication with other people was limited.  I found myself to be good at school but could not express myself the way I wanted.  None of the teachers understood this so I left school at the age of 15.

I left school and worked at the local fish factory.  I always had the ambition to start my own business but never had the confidence to do it.

In 2001 I had started repairing computers for friends and family for free.  This lead to their friends and family coming to me for repairs done.

At this time I had started work at an electronics company.  I think this was my turning point I knew I could run a business but lacked in confidence.  One day I just got the urge to do something with my life.  I emailed a national computer repair company and asked if they had any vacancies. About 6 months later they contacted me and offered me a position.  At this time I was still working and then doing the callouts for this company.  As time went on my confidence soared to a level where I did not care any more as I wanted something in life.

In 2004 I started Cartwright Computers from home.  Take off was slow but the overheads where low.  I was still working at the time.  I was going to work for 8am getting home at 5pm then doing 1 to 4 callouts per night, sometimes getting home at 12am!  My employer was very helpful and offered me three months part time work until I could get established.

Three months later the crunch came, I was on my own!!! Looking back now it was very scary but worthwhile!

In 2006 I opened my first workshop, employing Sandy Kerr my uncle.  In 6 months time we were very busy and soon ran out of space.  In October 2007 we moved to a bigger workshop at 20a Solway Trading Estate, where we currently are.

I still enjoy my work and hope to be around for a lot of years!  Computers are a pain, but we are here to ease that pain.

Thanks for Reading
